Joaquin Phoenix - A Voice for the Voiceless

The trilogy of factors which draw people to a vegan lifestyle are personal health, love for the planet and opposition to animal cruelty. These factors coalesce into a lifestyle with a strong future focus for generations to come.

Joaquin Phoenix’s acceptance speech for best actor at the 2020 Oscars captures these factors into logical and sequential argument. This humble yet well timed caveat threw out the challenge to the listener. “We’re talking about the fight against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender, one species, has the right to dominate, use and control another with impunity.” Joaquin closed his acceptance speech in saying: “when we educate each other, we guide each other to redemption”.

Joaquin Phoenix lent considerable weight to the animal rights movement through a well-constructed argument in saying that all sentient beings have the right to a life to which they were destined. A life free from being subject to the abuse of a dominant culture and its belief system
around eating animals and the comfort and convenience attached to this carnivorous lifestyle.

So thank you Joaquin Phoenix, for speaking up and openly inviting much needed discussion in 2020.

Animal rights activism is the same as all fights against injustice. You are not being provocative when you tell your social circle that you are vegan because of animal cruelty. You are actually inviting an opportunity to raise their consciousness and to think about the source behind their daily
habits.
